How Overtime Tap started

A corner tavern with two televisions, a fryer and a landlord who wanted it gone. Overtime Tap opened on Milwaukee Avenue in 2009 the week the Hawks started their run, and the room has not been quiet on a game night since.

We still brine every wing the night before, still make the Buffalo sauce with butter and nothing from a jug, and still argue about which screen gets the Bears. The big one, always.

What we insist on

  • Jumbo wings, brined overnight, fried twice, tossed in a steel bowl
  • Seven sauces made in house, the Buffalo with real butter
  • Italian beef roasted here and sliced thin, giardiniera from Elmwood Park
  • 24 taps with at least 10 breweries from Illinois on at any time

Who cooks

A kitchen of six and a bar of four on a game night. Two on fryers, one on the flat top, one on pizza, two on the pass. The bar pulls around 900 pints on a Sunday in October.

Good to know

Can I book a table for a game?

Yes, for groups of six or more. Write to us with the game, the number and the time, and we hold a booth with a screen in front of it.

How does ordering at the table work?

Scan the code on the table, order and pay from your phone, and the food comes to you. Open a tab for the next round the same way.

Which games do you show?

Every Bears, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox, Blackhawks and Fire game, plus the national slate. Ask the bar for a specific match and we put it on a screen.

Do you have gluten-free options?

The grilled chicken wrap on lettuce, the salads without croutons, and the wings in Buffalo, lemon pepper or garlic parmesan. The fryers are shared with breaded items.
