How Slow Pour started
Slow Pour opened in 2016 in a former print shop on Haywood Street with a two-group machine bought at auction and six tables we built from the print shop’s old doors. We served one coffee, black or with milk, and toast.
There are three coffees now, a filter bar and a kitchen the size of a cupboard. The doors are still the tables. The machine was replaced in 2022 with one we rebuilt over a winter, and it has not been off since.

What we insist on
- Espresso dialled in at 6 a.m. every day, and again after lunch
- Milk from Weaverville, steamed to order, never re-steamed
- Filter coffee thrown out after 45 minutes
- Beans roasted within the last two weeks, or we do not serve them
Who is behind the bar
Six baristas, two of them roasters by training. Everyone who works the machine has cupped every coffee on the board. At eight on a weekday you will meet three of them at once.

Good to know
Do you have oat milk?
Yes, oat, almond and soy, 75 cents on any drink. Pick it on the milk option at checkout.
How long does an order wait for me?
Hot drinks are made when you are two minutes out, if you set a pickup time. Iced drinks and pastries are ready at the time you choose.
Can I bring my own cup?
Yes, and it is 25 cents off at the counter. For online orders we use paper cups with no plastic lining.
Is there somewhere to work?
There are 24 seats and power at the long table. We ask laptops to move after two hours on weekend mornings.
